Teaching an automotive technician class takes a special person with lots of patience and knowledge of machinery.

“Every day when I plan the day, I worry about someone getting seriously injured. The equipment we work with is very serious and big. It’s stressful all day,” says Ozark High School’s auto technician instructor, Mr. Dean Ulrich. Mr. Ulrich has taught auto tech for 18 years, 8 of those being at OHS.

“My favorite thing to teach is electricity. It is one thing that most people do not understand and yet it can do so many cool things.” When asked what he likes most about teaching auto tech, Mr. Ulrich states, “I like seeing the light bulb turn on in the student’s eyes when they learn something new.”

Mr. Ulrich has a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology from the College of the Ozarks and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Missouri State University.

Outside of his teaching career, Mr. Ulrich enjoys camping and riding ATV’s. His goals for this year are for the kids to learn as much as possible, and to repair cars safely.
